Global nameplate PAN-based carbon fiber capacities will reach 140000 MT in 20152015-06-30
According to JEC Composites Magazine April 2015, it showed global nameplate PAN-based carbon fiber capacities will reach 140000 tons in 2015, and the capacities for small tow (1K-24K) and large tow (48K above) PAN-based carbon fiber will take over 70% and around 27%.
In the report, it also indicated there are almost 30 PAN-based carbon fiber manufacturers existing were located in nine countries, including Japan, USA, Germany, Taiwan, Korea, Turkey, China, Russia and India. The top three for small tow PAN-based carbon fiber manufacturers are Toray (estmated 26,800 MT), Toho Tenax (estmated 11,500 MT) and Mitsubishi Rayon (estmated 10,800 MT).
Toray has been ranked as the first supplier of large tow since Zoltek was merged into Toray on 2013. SGL (estmated 26,800 MT) run after Toray as the second large tow supplier.
Toray accounts for 33% of the total PAN-based carbon fiber capacity which far surpasses the other existing competitors, but Chinese manufacturers are highly potential and will be noticeable in a near future.
